There are so many gluten free options lately, that we have actually begun to get picky about our gluten free food! We are happy to give these buns two thumbs up.
First, sorry for the lapse in time since my last post. As anyone who has read my blog for a couple of years knows, I tend to check out during the summer. I have three kids and we have a loosely-held no electronics rule in the summer. If the kids are expected to unplug from their headphones for the sound of birds chirping, then Mom has to unplug as well. So, that makes it really hard to keep up with my blog. But these buns were good enough for me to get out a quick post!
I have been waiting for a good bun. When Bavarian Mills first came out with a GF bun, we were so happy to just have the option of eating a burger on a bun, that we rejoiced in this product. But as I said above, there are so many options now that we can actually get picky. And we like the Bertille Buns better.
We bought them at Savory Moment in Redmond. They come in two sizes, one that is for a bigger sandwich or burger, and these great little slider buns that I love. We had the slider-sized buns with some ham and chicken salad. They were delicious.
The bigger buns are very light in texture. More like the consistency of a croissant with a harder crust and a softer filling. I am not sure they would hold a one pound burger, but wow they are great sandwich buns. I thought they had a very strong buttery flavor (even though they are dairy free) but no one else seemed to notice. The Middle Child has asked to have her chicken salad sandwiches on these instead of Udi bread.
The Bertille website is under construction so I am not sure where else you can purchase them. I sent them an email and hope to have a response soon that I will post in the comments below.
What have you come across new lately?
