Sorry to all of you who live away you will just have to salivate over this one (or better yet come for a visit) but we are so thrilled that Garlic Jim's is now serving gluten free pizza!!
For those of you who do not know, Garlic Jim's is the proclaimed first gourmet carry and delivery pizza chain. After conferring with the Gluten Intolerance Group in Seattle, it is now serving gluten free pizza at its stores in Redmond, Mukilteo, Marysville and Lakewood in WA State, all of their Oregonstores, and at Highlands Ranch in Colorado. According to a spokesperson from Garlic Jim's, they are adding it at new locations weekly.
Let me tell you, the Gluten Free Kid and I were jumping up and down when we heard it was going to be available at our local Garlic Jim's. Of course the cautious side of my was wondering if it would be good and how safe it would be. We went on the first day they started serving it. People watching must of thought we were crazy to be so happy about pizza in a box as we literally danced our way to the car and then set in the car devouring it.
Yes, it was heavenly!!
Yes, it appears to be safe. Okay, you are going to take a risk whenever you eat food that you don't prepare yourself, but we were encouraged that they are working with GIG on procedures to ensure there will not be cross-contamination. Plus we have gotten it every week for three weeks now (yes, a little over indulgent but it's PIZZA) and every time I have thoroughly examined the workers - there is ton of flour flying around the place, but it is corn flour not wheat; they use separate everything to cook and prepare it and the condiments; they even came in with little brushes and cleaned the ceilings twice before bringing in the gluten free products.
We love Garlic Jim's and plan on eating enough pizza to keep them in business. Better yet, I have a friend with celiac disease who had not eaten pizza out of a box in 11 years!! She almost cried when she sunk her teeth in for that first bite!
